Job Description:

Assist the Accounting department in creating timely and accurate financial statements, preparing account reconciliations, completing financial projects and reports. Primary job functions typically require exercising independent judgment, as this is an individual contributor role. This position is also responsible for reporting and escalating any issues about the job to the Assistant Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting duties:

Assist in the monthly financial close activities.
Prepare month-end journal entries and perform account reconciliations for multiple companies, including but not limited to prepaid expenses, bad debts, and property taxes.
Ensure the accuracy of selected balance sheet accounts for multiple companies by preparing schedules detailing what is in the accounts and tying them to sub-ledgers each month.
Review income statement accounts for accuracy and reasonableness based on account history, insuring corrections are made as necessary.
Prepare monthly reporting packages including but not limited to operations reports, sales reports, commission and incentive calculations, departmental spending, and days sales outstanding.
Work with operations managers to help them understand the financial statements and answer specific questions they may have.
Prepare year-end schedules for audit and provide documentation for auditors as necessary.
On a daily basis, post all bank transactions and investigate transactions for which documentation was not received.
Reconcile selected bank accounts for multiple companies in accordance with the financial close calendar.
Calculate and record requested labor allocations in the general ledger.
Support the preparation of periodic compliance items including Sales Tax, Property Tax, Income tax and periodic government census filings.
Manage fixed asset activity including recording depreciation expense and capitalization of assets in the Sage fixed asset system.
Support lease accounting compliance by managing lease activity in Visual Lease software.
Provide backup for billing, accounts receivable collections and other departments as necessary.
Record payroll distribution in the general ledger for two companies
Participate in process improvement projects as required.
Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, suppliers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
Complete discretion is required, as this position will have access to financial statements, payroll, and other confidential information.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Customer Relations:

1. Interact with internal and external customers in person and via telephone, fax and email to ensure complete customer satisfaction in all matters related to the operation.

2. Attend and participate in meetings.

3. Maintain excellent customer service with the internal and external customers including transportation and operation teams to establish solid relationships.

Training:

1. Participate and lead Six Sigma projects, as required to improve processes and efficiencies.

2. Promote Corovan's Mission and Vision Statements.

3. Continuously promotes compliance with company policies and procedures.

Safety:

1. Ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained on a daily basis.

Other Duties:

1. Other duties to meet business needs and requirements as assigned.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

d. Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications, including MS Excel.

e. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Excellent analytical ability.

f. Must be detail oriented.

g. Familiarity with six-sigma or other quality improvement processes.

h. Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive and confidential information.

i. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.

j. Capability of effective planning and priority setting.

k. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Required:

BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance is required; or a combination of education and equivalent experience may be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

Minimum 5 years' related experience in an accounting environment.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including MS Excel.

Valid CA driver's license that meets our insurance carrier's requirements.

Preferred:

Experience in ERP software implementation.

Familiarity with Great Plains, Visual Lease and Sage Fixed Assets software.

Accounting experience in a service industry.

Experience with process improvement teams.

Service industry experience highly desirable.

PRIMARY LOCATION:

Poway, CA.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This list is not all inclusive.

1. Temp/Weather: Works in either 1) Office environment - for the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment, and 2) Warehouse - may be exposed to cold temperature, and 3) Outside - may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold.

2. Noise: Works in office, warehouse or outside environment, with constant or intermittent noise.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

1. This is a full-time, Salaried position.

2. Employees may be required to work late evenings or weekends depending on the business needs.

3. All Overtime must be approved by manager before working.

4. Because of sales and accounting interactions, the work needs to be conducted in the office location of 12302 Kerran Street, Poway, CA 92064.

TRAVEL:

Minimal travel. A valid driver's license is required for this position, and reliable transportation.
