exciting opportunity for a Director of Reliability and
Maintainability and System Safety (RAMS) to join our team in Poway,
CA.The Director of Reliability and Maintainability and System
Safety (RAMS) reports to the Senior Director of Engineering
Services and is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution,
and technical performance of all RAMS-related activities within the
organization. This role includes the management of a diverse team
responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and reliability
requirements and standards, while also integrating these practices
across various engineering disciplines and departments. The
Director will collaborate with executive leadership to establish
and achieve both short-term and long-term objectives that ensure
the highest levels of safety and reliability for all GA-ASI
products and systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead RAMS Initiatives: Direct all phases of RAMS activities,
ensuring that System Safety, Reliability, and Maintainability goals
are aligned with the organization's overall business
objectives.
- Develop and Approve Deliverables: Oversee the creation and
execution of System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Management
Plans (SMP), RAM Plans, and other key deliverables such as
Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Common Cause Analyses (CCA),
Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), System
Safety Assessment (SSA) Report / Safety Assessment Report (SAR) and
Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).
- Technical Oversight: Ensure that RAMS processes and
methodologies meet or exceed customer requirements (e.g., MIL-STD,
FAA, EU regulations), and guide the integration of RAMS practices
across various engineering teams.
- Risk Management: Evaluate and manage risks associated with
safety-critical functions in support of Airworthiness, particularly
in areas tied to high-risk systems like MQ-9B, leveraging tools
such as Safety Critical Function Thread Analysis (SCFTA), Failure
Modes Effects Testing (FMET) and Reliability Growth Analysis
(RGA).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for
RAMS matters, engaging with senior management, customers, and
government representatives to discuss critical safety and
reliability topics.
- Team Development: Lead the recruitment, retention, and
development of a high-performing RAMS team, ensuring that technical
excellence and leadership are maintained within the group.
- Direct all phases of engineering project(s) including planning
and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and
financial objectives are attained.
- Participate in the preparation of proposals, estimates, and
support development of language for Statement of Work (SOW) related
to RAM, System Safety and Environmental requirements.
- Lead status review sessions to discuss budget, schedule, and
technical performance.
- Identify RAMS engineering issues and provide leadership in
developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources to meet
schedule demands.
- Participate in the development of new business opportunities
and expansion of existing business opportunities by ensuring all
estimates/proposals are reviewed and RAMS is included early in the
requirements and design phases of programs.
- Lead development of internal procedures / training, to ensure
the team is current with any new updates to industry standards or

- Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering
or a related technical field, with fifteen or more years of
progressively responsible experience in RAMS roles, including at
least nine years in management.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of
system safety, environmental and reliability engineering
principles, with extensive experience in the development and
execution of RAMS deliverables, such as SSPP, RAM Plan, Hazardous
Material Management Plan (HMMP), FHA, FMECA, and other related
analyses.
- Must possess the ability to resolve unusually complex
management and technical problems and be a technical expert in one
or more areas of engineering.
- Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and
interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface
with other departments, all levels of management, professional and
support staff, customers, potential customers, and government
representatives.Salary: $155,370 - $289,320
