General Overview

The Manufacturing Software Engineer is responsible for making process improvements by conducting methodical reviews of existing processes in order to improve quality, consistency of the build processes, throughput, and lead times. Working under minimal supervision, will provide troubleshooting, process review, documentation, and training support to the production floor. This includes test and fixture design, procedure creation and maintenance. The position will ensure that product quality is maintained while minimizing production and test costs. Support new product introductions by working with the design engineers and other manufacturing engineers to develop documentation, fixtures, BOMs and processes that ensure product quality and manufacturability.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) development on new products, both at the system and PCBA board test levels

Perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing process and production costs

Upgrade existing manual test systems, for both systems and PCBA test to ATE, based on a return on investment (ROI) calculation

Develop test plans with cross functional teams to optimize test coverage, while minimizing costs

Work closely with the development team to debug new test methods

Lead ATE-to-bench correlation activities on critical parameters, including troubleshooting issues

Write test procedures for new products

Troubleshoot test failures at local facilities and remote suppliers to determine root cause at system and PCBA levels

Reviews existing processes, evaluates for efficacy and efficiency and makes improvements as needed.

Standardize processes throughout production.

Assist manufacturing associates and technicians with production issues and processes.

Design, implements, and trains associates and technicians in new methods, products, tooling, work instructions, etc.

Implement "Lean" techniques and processes into Operations and throughout the organization.

Evaluate effects of product design changes and challenges engineering designs when required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education/Experience

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar discipline plus a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in software process or manufacturing engineering.

Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for issues that arise when implementing new test methods

Ability to troubleshoot complex systems in production and test

Strong communication skills for updating core team members on ATE development status

Experience using and developing flying probe, In-Circuit, & functional testing

Familiarity with JTAG/boundary scan test methods a plus

Computer programming and software development experience a plus

Desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge and keep up with current technical advances in the field

Experience maintaining test equipment

Successful background working in cross-departmental teams.

May Require occasional work in a marine environment on a small boat or larger vessel

Able to work safely around test tanks and electrical current


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of applicable database and ERP software; MS Office including PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and Word applications. Computer Programming experience a plus.


Position requires U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.

ITAR regulations dictate that information and material pertaining to defense and military related technologies may only be shared with US Persons unless authorization from the Department of State is received or a special exemption is used.
